Distinguished Coastal Engineering Researcher and Innovator

María Esther Gómez-Martín is a prominent figure in coastal engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), where she currently serves as Regional Secretary of Universities for the Valencian Government. Her research journey began at UPV's Ports and Coastal Laboratory in 2002, followed by eight years (2007-2015) as a professor at the University of Alicante's Civil Engineering Department before returning to UPV in 2015. Her significant contributions to coastal engineering include co-inventing the Cubipod®, an innovative breakwater armor unit protected by multiple international patents. Her research expertise spans breakwater design, physical modeling, and neural networks, with over forty published articles documenting her work

Pioneering Maritime Engineer and Coastal Infrastructure Expert

Josep Ramón Medina Folgado serves as Director of the Ports and Coasts Laboratory at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), where he has been a Full Professor since 1993 in the School of Civil Engineering. His distinguished career includes various academic and management positions at the university, while his research focuses primarily on physical modeling of breakwaters and product-oriented research. His most notable achievement is the co-invention of the Cubípodo® for sloping breakwater armor layers, which has revolutionized coastal protection infrastructure. His extensive research portfolio encompasses dozens of national and international R&D projects, resulting in more than two hundred technical-scientific articles and several invention patents. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exceptional expertise in maritime engineering, particularly in the development of innovative coastal protection solutions and port infrastructure designs
