A Pioneer in Exercise Physiology and Healthy Aging Research

Anne L. Friedlander has established herself as a leading expert in exercise physiology and healthy aging as an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University's Program in Human Biology. After earning her BA in Biology from Wesleyan University, Masters and Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from UC Berkeley, and completing postdoctoral training at Stanford's School of Medicine, she has built an impressive career spanning research, education, and industry collaboration. Her extensive experience includes serving as Director of the Exercise Physiology Lab at VA Palo Alto, Director of the Mobility Division within Stanford Center on Longevity, and Associate Director for Education at the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center. As Head of Movement & Exercise at Stanford's Lifestyle Medicine program, she focuses on enhancing human performance, environmental physiology, and promoting healthy aging through physical activity. Beyond academia, Friedlander consults with wellness companies to develop innovative fitness products and programs, while maintaining her passion for outdoor activities including skiing, running, biking, and hiking. Her teaching emphasizes translating complex scientific concepts into practical applications, making exercise physiology accessible to diverse audiences through both traditional and virtual reality-enhanced learning experiences.
