Saedis Saevarsdottir is a prominent professor in precision medicine at the University of Iceland, where she also leads the Master program in personalized medicine. She is a consultant in rheumatology at Landspitali University Hospital and a scientist at deCODE genetics. Previously, she served as an associate professor at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, where she was the chief rheumatologist and head of the Arthritis Unit. Dr. Saevarsdottir graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Iceland in 2001 and earned her PhD in immunology in 2005, focusing on complement deficiency in inflammatory diseases. Her research primarily investigates predictors of rheumatoid arthritis risk and outcomes, including genetic and environmental factors. Since 2018, she has led genome-wide studies on autoimmune diseases at deCODE genetics. Dr. Saevarsdottir has supervised numerous PhD students and teaches courses on rheumatology and personalized medicine, including the online course "Personalised Medicine from a Nordic Perspective," launched on Coursera in 2022.
