Randy Picker graduated cum laude from the University of Chicago in 1980 with a BA in economics and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his doctoral coursework and exams in the Department of Economics as a Friedman Fellow, earning a master's degree in 1982. Subsequently, he attended the Law School, graduating cum laude in 1985 and becoming a member of the Order of the Coif. During law school, he served as an Associate Editor of the Law Review and later clerked for Judge Richard A. Posner
