Peggy Mason, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Chicago, where she has been a faculty member since 1992. She earned both her BA in Biology and her PhD in Neuroscience from Harvard University. Professor Mason has extensive teaching experience with undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, earning numerous awards for her contributions to education. Drawing on nearly 15 years of teaching medical students, she authored the textbook Medical Neurobiology (Oxford University Press, 2011), which is tailored specifically for medical students and covers the fundamentals of the nervous system in relation to human health. Her research investigates the neurobiological underpinnings of empathy and helping behaviors.
