Stanford UniversityDr. Pedro Tanaka serves as Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he combines clinical expertise with educational leadership. After completing his medical degree, anesthesiology training, and PhD in clinical investigation in Brazil, he enhanced his academic credentials with a Master's in Academic Medicine from USC and a doctorate in education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His career progression includes roles as Associate Program Director and inaugural Vice-Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Stanford's Department of Anesthesiology. Currently serving as Associate Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, he leverages his expertise in medicine, education, and executive coaching to empower faculty members and advance medical education. His contributions to anesthesiology education have earned him numerous honors, including the H.B. Fairley Teaching Excellence Award and recognition as a Stanford Anesthesia Teaching Scholar. Through his role as Assistant Director with COACHME, he continues to mentor clinician-educators while advancing their careers in academic medicine.
