Margarida Martins

Margarida Martins is a senior economist in the Real Sector Division of the IMF Statistics Department since 2016, bringing extensive expertise in national accounts and high-frequency economic indicators. Her role involves delivering capacity development activities and contributing to major statistical initiatives. Martins has played a significant part in updating the System of National Accounts, serving as secretariat for the Globalization and Communication Task Teams, and has contributed to the 2020 CPI Manual update and the Data Gaps Initiative. Her experience includes work on quarterly national accounts, short-term analysis, and surveys at Statistics Portugal, as well as a role as an economist at the Portuguese Public Finance Council. Martins holds a M.A. in international economics from the University of Lisbon, which underpins her comprehensive approach to economic analysis and statistical methodology. Her contributions extend to developing guidance on high-frequency indicators of economic activity and participating in technical assistance missions across various regions, demonstrating her commitment to improving global economic statistics and analysis.
