Hopkins serves as Associate Chief Medical Officer and Senior Medical Director for Quality at Stanford Health Care, while holding the position of Clinical Professor of Medicine in Primary Care & Population Health at Stanford University School of Medicine. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois, he earned his MD from Stanford University School of Medicine and a Master of Medical Management from USC's Marshall School of Business, followed by an internship at Harbor-UCLA Hospital and a Family Medicine residency at the University of Rochester. In his role at Stanford, he oversees the Quality, Patient Safety & Effectiveness Department, supervises the Unit Based Medical Directors program which he created, and founded the Stanford Leadership Development Program. As co-chair of the Medical Staff Committee for Professionalism, he manages physician performance improvement and chairs the SHC Quality, Patient Safety & Effectiveness Committee. His expertise spans quality improvement, leadership development, and physician professionalism, and he frequently speaks at national conferences on these topics. Dr. Hopkins has made significant contributions to healthcare leadership through his work in developing physician-nurse partnerships, implementing quality improvement initiatives, and directing the Stanford Breakthrough Collaborative on Access and Operational Excellence in Clinics, while his research work has been extensively cited in medical literature, particularly in studies focusing on professionalism in medical services and patient outcomes.
