Dr Jonathon Hutchinson

Dr. Jonathon Hutchinson is a Senior Lecturer in Online Communication and Media at the University of Sydney. He is a Chief Investigator on the Australian Research Council Discovery Project, Online News and Media Pluralism, and the eSafety Commission Research project, Emerging Online Safety Issues: Co-Creating Social Media Education with Young People. In 2022, he was the Faculty of Arts and Design Distinguished Fellow at the University of Canberra. His research interests include cultural production, public service media, cultural intermediation, social media, automated media, and the impact of algorithms in media. Dr. Hutchinson serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Policy & Internet and is the Treasurer for the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association (ANZCA). He is also on the Board of Directors for the Diplomatic World Institute and frequently contributes to the media. An award-winning author, he has published articles in several national and international Scimago Q1 journals, contributed to government submissions, and authored the book Cultural Intermediaries: Audience Participation and Media Organisations (2017) through Palgrave Macmillan. His work is centered around understanding media industries, internet governance, digital ethnography, and convergence. Dr. Hutchinson is active on Twitter (@dhutchman).
