Dr. Charles Harry is an Associate Research Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, with joint appointments in the School of Public Policy and the College of Information Studies. He brings over 20 years of experience in intelligence and cyber operations to his academic role. As the director of the Center for Governance of Technology and Systems (GoTech) and operations director for the Maryland Global Initiative for Cybersecurity (MaGIC), Dr. Harry focuses on developing analytical frameworks for assessing cybersecurity risks and measuring the impact of cyber events. His expertise spans both technical and policy aspects of cybersecurity, which he shares through his teaching and research. At UMD, Dr. Harry offers two courses on Coursera: "A Strategic Approach to Cybersecurity" and "Cybersecurity for Everyone," designed to provide comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity challenges to a wide audience. His background includes a 14-year career with the National Security Agency, where he rose to the rank of senior technical leader, and experience leading a $35 million cybersecurity consulting organization. Dr. Harry's contributions to the field have been recognized with awards such as the Director of National Intelligence Extraordinary Achievement Medal and the Signal Intelligence Career Achievement Medal.
