Marty is a computer scientist, entrepreneur, investor, and risk manager with 19 years of experience in senior roles at Goldman Sachs, including Chief Information Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and global co-head of the Securities Division, the firm’s largest and most complex business. Since retiring in 2019, he continues to serve as a Senior Director at Goldman Sachs. Over the past 35 years, Marty has leveraged data, math, software, and machine learning to solve complex problems for clients and stakeholders. Before Goldman Sachs, he co-founded Kiodex, which was acquired by Sungard in 2004, and Quorum Software Systems, where he served as Chief Technology Officer. Marty holds an A.B. magna cum laude in Biochemical Sciences and an S.M. in Computer Science from Harvard, and a Ph.D. in Medical Information Sciences from Stanford. Passionate about the intersection of life sciences and software, he has advised several startups and projects, including DataFleets, The Digital Dollar Project, and The Mount Sinai Institute for Health Equity Research. In 2020, he created and taught the course How Software Ate Finance at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Marty serves as President of the Board of Overseers of Harvard University for the 2020-21 academic year and is on the boards of several organizations, including Grupo Santander, Paige, Recursion Pharma, Sema4, and the Stanford Medicine Board of Fellows. He has also served on the boards of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, PNM Resources, and ISDA, and as a patron of the arts, he has supported the Friends of the High Line, amFAR, and the Santa Fe Opera. Marty resides in the Berkshires and is a proud father of two.

Jeffrey Conn is the outgoing Lead Case Writer at the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, where he co-created and co-instructed the course GSBGEN544, How Software Ate Finance. With a decade of experience in financial services, including investment banking, private equity, and venture capital, Jeff graduated from Stanford GSB in 2018. He began his career as an analyst in the Financial Institutions Group at Goldman Sachs before transitioning to investment roles at various private equity firms on both the West and East Coasts. Currently, he serves as the managing partner of BroadWest Partners, a private equity firm specializing in financial technology and enterprise software opportunities.
