Stanford's Champion of Healthcare Quality and Medical Innovation

Dr. Lisa Shieh, serving as Clinical Professor of Medicine and Associate Chief Quality Officer at Stanford Healthcare, has established herself as a pioneering force in healthcare quality improvement and medical education innovation. After completing her MD from Harvard Medical School and PhD in medical engineering from MIT, followed by her internal medicine residency at Stanford, she joined Stanford's faculty in 1999, where she has since built an impressive career combining clinical excellence with educational innovation. As Medical Director of Quality in the Division of Hospital Medicine and Associate Physician Improvement Leader in the Department of Medicine, she has gained national recognition for creating groundbreaking educational tools, most notably Septris, an award-winning online sepsis education game that earned the Society of Hospital Medicine innovation competition award in 2013. Her leadership extends across multiple roles, including Medical Director of QI programs for Graduate Medical Education, Program Director of Stanford's Resident Safety Council, and faculty sponsor for Stanford's Medical Student QI Interest Group and QI Scholarly Concentration. Dr. Shieh's recent initiatives include launching the Stanford Health Care Sustainability Seed Grant in 2022 and developing innovative approaches to clinical sustainability education, while her work in quality improvement and patient safety continues to influence healthcare delivery systems nationwide. Through her roles as hospitalist, unit medical director, and educator, she maintains an active presence in clinical practice while mentoring the next generation of medical professionals and driving forward-thinking initiatives in healthcare quality and safety.

Distinguished Leader in Endocrinology and Medical Education

Dr. Laurence Katznelson has built an exceptional career spanning clinical care, research, and medical education at Stanford University School of Medicine. After completing his MD from UCLA, internal medicine training at the University of Pennsylvania, and endocrinology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, he established himself as a leading authority in neuroendocrinology. At Stanford, he has served as Professor of Neurosurgery and Medicine, Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education, and Medical Director of the Pituitary Center. His contributions to medical education include centralizing innovative curricula, establishing the Resident Safety Council, and spearheading the Stanford GME Diversity Committee. Dr. Katznelson's research focuses on pituitary disorders, particularly acromegaly and hypopituitarism, while his clinical expertise has earned him numerous accolades including the 2017 Endocrine Society Outstanding Educator Laureate Award and the 2015 H. Jack Baskin Endocrine Teaching Award. He has chaired multiple committees for the Endocrine Society and led the development of clinical guidelines for acromegaly management. In March 2024, Dr. Katznelson was appointed as Vice Dean of Medical Education at Cedars-Sinai, where he will oversee graduate medical education, continuing medical education, and allied health programs starting May 2024.
