Pioneering One Health Expert and Environmental Health Researcher

Dr. Serge Morand serves as a Research Director at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Associate Researcher at CIRAD, while holding positions at Kasetsart University's Faculty of Veterinary Technology and Mahidol University's Faculty of Tropical Medicine in Bangkok. As a pioneer in One Health research, he specializes in the evolutionary ecology of disease transmission and the complex relationships between biodiversity, health, and society. His extensive field research across Southeast Asia encompasses Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and the Philippines, where he investigates the impacts of climate change and land use alterations on wildlife-borne diseases. His appointment to the One Health High-Level Expert Panel demonstrates his international recognition in shaping global health policy. Currently directing the IRL HealthDEEP project, he leads innovative research initiatives on animal health and zoonotic disease prevention in Southeast Asia. His prolific academic career includes authoring over 700 scientific papers, and his expertise spans from parasitology to socio-ecological health systems. Beyond academia, he recently contributed his scientific expertise to the 2022 documentary "The Pandemics Factory," directed by Marie Monique Robin, further extending his influence in public health discourse.
