Championing Entrepreneurship in Disadvantaged Communities
Dr. Isla Kapasi is an Associate Professor of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at the University of Leeds, UK. Her research focuses on the motivations driving entrepreneurship, particularly in disadvantaged and marginalized communities. She earned her PhD studying entrepreneurship in home-based contexts and has published in renowned journals such as the International Small Business Journal and the Journal of Small Business Management. With research funding from BA Leverhulme and the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Kapasi integrates academic work with policy and practice. Her background spans self-employment and roles in the public, private, and third sectors. She also mentors high-growth firms in Scotland and works with charitable and social enterprise organizations. A certified Team Academy Coach and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Dr. Kapasi teaches enterprise and entrepreneurship across the UK and Europe, leading the Practice & Impact special interest group for ISBE.
