Delft University of TechnologyUlrich Knaack (born 1964) serves as Professor of Design of Construction at TU Delft's Faculty of Architecture and Professor of Façade Technology at TU Darmstadt's Faculty of Civil Engineering. After completing his architecture degree and PhD from RWTH Aachen, he established himself as both a practicing architect and academic leader. His professional career includes successful projects in high-rise apartments, office buildings, and stadiums in Düsseldorf, while his academic work has revolutionized façade technology research. At TU Delft, he founded the influential Façade Research Group, focusing on innovative construction techniques, energy-efficient double-skin façades, and integrated building systems. His research spans integral design, façade technology, and additive manufacturing in architecture. He has authored numerous reference books and regularly organizes interdisciplinary design workshops and symposia in façade technology. His current work emphasizes sustainable building envelopes, energy harvesting through façades, and the application of new materials and technologies in architectural design. Through his dual appointments at TU Delft and TU Darmstadt, he continues to bridge the gap between architectural design and engineering implementation.
