She completed her studies at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and the University of Southern California. Dr. Thomas has previously served as faculty at the Indira Gandhi Institute for Development Research and has extensive research interests in financial econometrics and market microstructure within the Indian context. Her practical engagement with financial markets includes contributions to designing stock market indices, developing real-time risk management systems for clearing corporations, and analyzing the growth of algorithmic trading's impact on equity and commodities markets. Additionally, she has worked on the development of the zero-coupon yield curve and explored the implications of land record quality on credit markets. Dr. Thomas has been actively involved in policy-making, serving on the Standing Council for the Competitiveness of the Indian Financial Sector since 2013 and participating in the Bankruptcy Legislative Reforms Committee from 2014 to 2015, where she led a research team that designed and drafted the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (2016).
