The Hong Kong University of Science and TechnologySean McMinn serves as Director of the Center for Education Innovation at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he has established himself as a leading expert in educational technology and digital literacy. After completing his PhD in E-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning from Lancaster University, he has held various leadership positions including Director of the English Language Centre at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Associate Director of the Center for Language Education at HKUST. His academic journey includes degrees in English, Journalism, and Educational Technology from Carleton University, Conestoga College, and the University of British Columbia. Throughout his 20-year career in higher education, he has made significant contributions to technology-enhanced learning, particularly in areas of MOOCs, social media integration, and digital literacies. His excellence in teaching innovation was recognized with a Teaching Innovation Award at HKUST in 2007, and he has been nominated for prestigious honors including the UGC Teaching Award and the Michael G. Gale Teaching Award. Beyond his administrative role, he actively publishes research on educational technology, most recently focusing on artificial intelligence in education, while maintaining teaching responsibilities in business communications, digital literacies, and complex systems. His leadership at the Center for Education Innovation encompasses promoting effective pedagogy, integrating innovative technology in teaching and learning, and supporting faculty development through various professional development initiatives.
