Indian Statistical InstituteSanghamitra Bandyopadhyay is a Professor (HAG) at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in Kolkata and the current Director of the institute, a position she has held since September 2020, following her first term from August 2015 to July 2020. She joined ISI's Machine Intelligence Unit in 1999 after completing her Ph.D. there. Dr. Bandyopadhyay has an extensive international academic background, having worked in various countries and delivered invited lectures worldwide. Her research interests encompass artificial intelligence, machine learning, soft and evolutionary computation, pattern recognition, and data mining. She has authored over 300 research articles and several books published by notable publishers. Dr. Bandyopadhyay has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Bhatnagar Prize, Infosys Prize, TWAS Prize, and the Padma Shri award for her contributions to science and engineering. She is also a Fellow of several esteemed scientific organizations and serves on the Prime Minister of India's Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council.
