Ruth Prins

Dr. Ruth Prins serves as an assistant professor at Leiden University, where she is the program director for the Bachelor of Security Studies at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs. With dual master's degrees in public administration from VU University Amsterdam and Erasmus University Rotterdam, she further advanced her expertise by earning a PhD from Erasmus University. Dr. Prins teaches both bachelor and master courses focused on crisis and security management, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in understanding complex security challenges. Her research spans critical themes such as urban security, the role of mayors in local leadership, and the dynamics of police systems. Notably, she has contributed significantly to the discourse on integrated safety policies and crisis management structures, particularly in the context of Dutch municipalities. Through her innovative teaching methods, including the "Explore, Understand, and Do" framework, Dr. Prins equips students with essential tools to navigate the multifaceted landscape of contemporary security issues.
