Dr. Russell Taichman is the Major Ash Collegiate Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he also serves as the Associate Dean for Research. With a rich academic background that includes a DMD from the University of Pennsylvania and a DMSc from Harvard, Dr. Taichman has made significant contributions to the fields of bone biology, hematology, and academic leadership. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms regulating bone marrow function, particularly in relation to tissue regeneration and cancer stem cells. Over his career, he has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications and has been continuously funded for his research endeavors.In addition to his research, Dr. Taichman developed and directed the Scholars Program in Dental Leadership, the first program of its kind aimed at enhancing leadership skills among dental students. His commitment to education is further exemplified by his role in co-directing the course "Dentistry 101," which introduces foundational concepts in dentistry to learners on Coursera. As he prepares to transition to the role of Dean at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry, Dr. Taichman's legacy at Michigan includes fostering innovation in dental education and research, shaping future leaders in the field
