Delft University of TechnologyRudy Konings serves as Head of the Materials Research Unit at the Institute for Transuranium Elements in Karlsruhe and holds a part-time professorship at TU Delft's Department of Radiation Science & Technology. After earning his MSc in Earth Sciences from Utrecht University in 1985 and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Amsterdam in 1990, he built an impressive career in nuclear materials research. His expertise spans nuclear reactor fuel behavior, chemistry of fission products, nuclear waste management, and chemical thermodynamics of actinide and lanthanide elements. He has contributed significantly to the field through his work at the Netherlands Energy Research Foundation ECN and Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group (NRG) before joining the European Commission's Joint Research Centre in 1999. His academic impact is evidenced by more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, 13 book chapters, and his role as editor-in-chief of "Comprehensive Nuclear Materials." His research focuses particularly on high-temperature chemistry and thermodynamics of nuclear fuels and actinide materials, contributing to both fundamental understanding and practical applications in nuclear energy technology
