HEC MontréalPierre-Olivier Pineau is a Full Professor in the Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal and has held the Chair in Energy Sector Management since December 2013. With a Ph.D. from HEC Montréal (2000), Pineau is a renowned specialist in energy policy and management, focusing particularly on electricity sector reforms. His extensive research explores the connections between energy and sustainable development, resulting in numerous publications in top journals. Pineau is actively involved in public energy debates and has authored many reports for government and public organizations. He was appointed to the Quebec government's Climate Change Advisory Committee in April 2021. As a researcher and Fellow at the Center for Interuniversity Research and Analysis of Organizations (CIRANO), Pineau contributes to interdisciplinary research on energy issues. His expertise spans energy policy, electricity markets, decision analysis, and investment in developing countries. Pineau's recent book, "The Energy Balance" (in French, 2023), further demonstrates his commitment to public engagement on energy issues. Prior to joining HEC Montréal, he was an associate professor at the University of Victoria's School of Public Administration (2001-2006), bringing a wealth of experience to his current role in shaping energy policy and education in Quebec and beyond.
