He is recognized as a pioneer in the fields of recommender systems and reputation systems, significantly contributing to the development of the GroupLens system, which received the 2010 ACM Software Systems Award. Resnick co-authored the book "Building Successful Online Communities: Evidence-Based Social Design." He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan and a doctorate in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
