École Polytechnique Fédérale de LausanneMartin Gijs is a Professor of Microsystems at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he specializes in microfluidics, micro- and nanofabrication, and Bio-MEMS (Biomedical Microelectromechanical Systems). He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Leuven, Belgium, in 1986. Prior to joining EPFL in 1997, Gijs conducted research at Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. His work focuses on developing technologies for microsystems fabrication, particularly in the application of microfluidics for biomedical purposes. Gijs is also involved in teaching courses related to microengineering and has developed a MOOC on Micro and Nanofabrication (MEMS), which provides students and professionals with insights into the practical aspects of microfabrication techniques. His contributions to the field have advanced the understanding and implementation of microfluidic systems in various applications, including diagnostics and biological analysis.
