Lourdes Cantarero-Arévalo is an Associate Professor in Social Pharmacy at the University of Copenhagen, where she also works for the WHO Collaborating Centre in the Patient Perspective on Medicine Use. An economist and public health professional, she earned her PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Copenhagen in 2013. Her research primarily focuses on the patient perspective regarding medication use, particularly among adolescents and young people managing complex medication regimens. Dr. Cantarero's significant findings include the impact of socioeconomic and sociodemographic factors on access, acceptability, and adherence to medications, as well as the effects of shame, stigma, and self-stigma. She has published numerous studies examining how ethnicity, gender, and culture influence young patients' perceptions and experiences with chronic mental health conditions and their medications. Dr. Cantarero teaches courses such as "Patient Perspectives on Medications: Qualitative Interviews," emphasizing the importance of understanding patient experiences in healthcare.
