Delft University of TechnologyLóránt Tavasszy (born 1967) is a Full Professor in Freight Transport & Logistics at Delft University of Technology, where he leads the Freight & Logistics lab collaborating across six faculties. After completing his Civil Engineering studies and PhD on multimodal freight transport models for Europe in 1996 at TU Delft, he worked as a principal scientist at TNO from 1996 to 2016 while holding part-time professorships at both the University of Nijmegen and TU Delft. His research focuses on freight transportation modeling at urban, national, and global levels, with particular emphasis on logistics systems and spatial development. He has earned international recognition through awards including those from WCTRS (1998) and US TRB (2013), and currently chairs the Scientific Committee of the World Conference for Transport Research Society. His contributions include developing the influential SMILE model and numerous research roadmaps in freight transport. He serves on several professional committees, including the EU Technology Platform ALICE's Sustainability Task Group and advisory groups on Freight Corridors, Transport Safety, and Port Innovations. His expertise spans freight transport networks, interdisciplinary mechanics, and transport systems analysis, regularly teaching these subjects at TU Delft while maintaining active involvement in industry-relevant research and policy development
