Dr. Lisa Cooper is a Liberian-born general internist, social epidemiologist, and health services researcher, known for pioneering work on disparities in physician-patient relationships, particularly among socially at-risk groups. She developed innovative interventions to enhance physician communication, patient self-management, and healthcare organizations’ responsiveness to vulnerable populations. Author of over 180 publications and principal investigator on numerous grants, Dr. Cooper has mentored more than 60 individuals pursuing careers in health fields. As the director of The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity, she leads a transdisciplinary team focused on reducing racial and income disparities in health outcomes through clinical trials and advocacy, while also training future health equity scholars.
