Innovative Geoscience Educator and Structural Geology Expert

University of CanterburyDr. Kate Pedley serves as a Lecturer and 100-level coordinator for Geological Sciences at the University of Canterbury's School of Earth and Environment, where she designs and manages labs and fieldtrips for first and second-year geology courses. Her expertise spans structural geology, geomorphology, landscape evolution, and tectonics, with significant research contributions to understanding the Hikurangi subduction zone and the 2016 Kaikoura Earthquake effects. As part of the University's fault rupture team, she investigates landscape transformations in the Waiau region. Her teaching innovations include integrating digital technologies into field-based learning, as demonstrated by her work with the Visible Geology platform and participation in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiatives for field classes.
