Kalina Borkiewicz is a visualization programmer at the Advanced Visualization Lab within the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her primary focus is on developing software that processes and visualizes large scientific datasets generated at supercomputer centers. Recently, she has worked on Ytini, an open-source middleware that bridges the scientific analysis and visualization Python package, yt, with the visual effects software Houdini, making scientific visualization tools accessible to both artists and scientists. Kalina has contributed to notable films such as "A Beautiful Planet" (IMAX), "Birth of Planet Earth" (fulldome), and "Seeing the Beginning of Time" (4K), showcasing her expertise in cinematic scientific visualization. With a strong background in computer science, she is also passionate about promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the field.
