Tokyo Institute of TechnologyJunichi Iijima is a prominent Japanese academic who has made significant contributions to enterprise engineering, systems theory, and business process management. Born in Hokkaido in 1954, he earned his PhD in systems theory from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1983. His career began at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1981 as an assistant professor, where he later became a full professor in 1996 and served as Dean of the Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology. Currently, he serves as a professor in the Department of International Digital and Design Management at Tokyo University of Science, where he focuses on enterprise engineering, systems theory, and design management. Throughout his career, Iijima has been instrumental in developing the field of information systems in Japan, serving as president of JASMIN (Japan Society for Management Information) and contributing to government initiatives as a member of the Task Force on Electronic Administrative Service. His research interests span business process modeling, IT value assessment, and systems theory, with over 218 published works. His expertise in digital innovation and organizational design has been particularly influential in shaping the curriculum at Tokyo University of Science's new Department of International Digital and Design Management, where he currently serves as Department Head.
