Gangyan Xu

Dr. Gangyan Xu serves as Assistant Professor and Programme Leader of BEng (Hons) in Air Transport Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering. His academic credentials include a Ph.D. from The University of Hong Kong and both master's and bachelor's degrees from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His research portfolio focuses on aviation safety and reliability, data-driven optimization and control, and resilient systems, with particular expertise in deep reinforcement learning and complex networked systems. Since joining PolyU in August 2021, he has made significant contributions to the field of aviation engineering and dynamic decision-making, earning recognition as an "Outstanding Special Corresponding Expert" for Frontiers of Engineering Management. His work has garnered over 3,000 citations, demonstrating his substantial impact in the fields of cooperative AI, emergency systems, and aviation safety. Through his leadership in air transport engineering education and research, he continues to advance understanding of aviation systems and data-driven optimization techniques.
