Dr. Mohamed Noor is the Earl D. McLean Professor and Chair of Biology at Duke University, specializing in molecular evolution. His research has largely focused on understanding the genetic changes that lead to the formation of new species. Recently, his team has studied fruit fly species to investigate the causes and evolutionary consequences of variation in genetic recombination/exchange rates. Dr. Noor has received several awards for his research, teaching, and mentoring. He has been actively involved in the scientific community, having served as president of the American Genetic Association and the Society for the Study of Evolution, chair of the NIH study section in Genetic Variation and Evolution, and editor of the journal Evolution.
