Dr. Bishai is a physician and prominent health economist specializing in the application of systems thinking to public health practice. He leads the interdepartmental program in health economics at the school and teaches courses focused on health systems. Dr. Bishai is a regular contributor to leading journals such as Health Economics, Journal of Health Economics, and Health Policy and Planning, and serves as an associate editor for Health Economics. He earned his Ph.D. in Health Care Systems from the Wharton School of Business in 1996, his M.D. from the University of California at San Diego in 1987, and his M.P.H. from UCLA. Dr. Bishai completed his residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. In 2015, he was elected as the president-elect of the International Health Economics Association, reflecting his leadership and contributions to the field.
