With over 15 years of experience in the field, he specializes in next-generation embedded systems for the Internet of Things (IoT), focusing on smart objects and their integration into everyday applications. Atienza earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Complutense University of Madrid and completed his Ph.D. in integrated circuit design and embedded systems design through a joint program with IMEC in Belgium. He has held various academic positions at EPFL since 2008, advancing to full professor status in 2021. His research interests encompass hardware-software co-design, energy-efficient computing systems, and thermal-aware optimization techniques for multi-processor systems-on-chip (MPSoCs). Atienza's contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous accolades, including being named an IEEE Fellow and an ACM Fellow for his work on high-performance integrated systems. He has published over 400 papers, co-authored two books, and holds multiple patents, solidifying his reputation as a leading figure in embedded systems research and development.
