Danielle Albers Szafir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and a Fellow at the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. She also holds an affiliate position in the founding faculty of the Department of Information Science and is a Fellow in the Institute of Cognitive Science. Her research lies at the intersection of information visualization, data science, and cognitive science, focusing on enhancing how complex data is represented and understood. Dr. Szafir's work has been integrated into prominent tools like D3 and Tableau, earning her recognition with best paper awards at prestigious conferences such as IEEE VIS and IS&T Color and Imaging. In 2018, she was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 list for Science.Dr. Szafir earned her B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Washington as a NASA Space Grant Scholar and completed her Ph.D. in Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research has received funding from organizations such as the NSF, US Air Force, and DHHS. She teaches courses including "Fundamentals of Data Visualization," where she equips students with essential skills for effective data representation.
