Associate Professor Cheong Siew Ann has been a member of the Division of Physics and Applied Physics at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, since August 2007. He earned his B.Sc. (Hons) in physics from the National University of Singapore and both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Cornell University. Before joining NTU, he worked as a postdoctoral associate at the Cornell Theory Center. Dr. Cheong is a member of the American Physical Society and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, with expertise in computational physics, complex system dynamics, and bioinformatics. His current research focuses on developing self-consistent stochastic boundary conditions for simulations, accelerating Monte Carlo methods, and creating automatic coarse-graining algorithms for data-driven analysis in various fields, including financial markets and large-scale computer simulations. Additionally, he explores the application of statistical physics concepts to database mining, aiming to enhance understanding of complex systems through computational theory.
