Caridad Araujo is the Chief of the Gender and Diversity Division at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where she leads initiatives aimed at enhancing access to quality services and economic opportunities while strengthening the voice and representation of women, indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants, persons with disabilities, and the LGBTIQ+ community. Previously, she served as the Chief Economist for the Health and Social Protection Division at the IDB, focusing on child development programs and poverty reduction. Caridad has also held academic positions, including a faculty role at Georgetown University, and has worked with the World Bank. She holds a PhD and Master's degree in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. Her work is instrumental in promoting gender equality and diversity within development policies across Latin America and the Caribbean.
