Dr. Brian Hare is a scientist, TV host, and New York Times bestselling author. He serves as an associate professor of evolutionary anthropology at Duke University and is a member of the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, part of the Duke Institute of Brain Science. Hare earned his PhD from Harvard University, founded the Hominoid Psychology Research Group at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, and later established the Duke Canine Cognition Center upon joining Duke. His research on dog cognition is highly influential and widely cited in studies of dog behavior and intelligence. In recognition of his work, he received Germany's prestigious Sofja Kovalevskaja Award in 2004, and Smithsonian magazine named him one of the top 37 U.S. scientists under the age of 36 in 2007. Hare's research has been featured extensively in the media, including outlets such as The New York Times, National Geographic, and Wired. His book The Genius of Dogs became a New York Times bestseller, and he recently hosted the TV series Is Your Dog a Genius on Nat Geo Wild, which explores dog cognition.
