Clayton is an Associate Professor in the Higher Education Administration program at Louisiana State University (LSU), where she holds the Jo Ellen Levy Yates Endowed Professorship. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from Virginia Tech, a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida International University, and a PhD in Educational Research and Policy Analysis from North Carolina State University. Dr. Clayton's research focuses on postsecondary access, equity, and success, particularly for underserved student populations such as first-generation college students and low-income students. She has published extensively in academic journals and has presented her work at various conferences. Dr. Clayton has received several awards for her contributions to the field, including the Rising Faculty Research Award from LSU and the ASHE/Ascendium Fellow designation in 2022. Additionally, she serves on the editorial boards of multiple academic journals related to higher education.
