Anthony Lehmann is dedicated to transforming environmental data into actionable insights for the conservation of nature. Initially focusing on Species Distribution Modeling, he developed the Generalized Regression Analysis and Spatial Prediction (GRASP) package, which he applied across various organisms and ecosystems. More recently, he coordinated a significant European research project utilizing the SWAT hydrological modeling tool to model the entire Black Sea catchment for the first time. As an expert in Geographic Information Systems and Statistical Modeling, Lehmann is now exploring innovative methods for sharing and integrating Earth observation data to create spatially explicit environmental indicators. These indicators are essential for assessing Ecosystem Services at various spatial scales and for supporting numerous environmental policies, including those set by the CBD, IPBES, IPCC, and the SDGs. He earned his Master’s and PhD in Ecology from the University of Geneva, conducted postdoctoral research at Landcare Research in New Zealand and CSIRO in Canberra, and has worked at the Swiss Center for Mapping Fauna in Neuchâtel and UNEP/GRID in Geneva. Lehmann teaches practical courses on GIS, spatial statistics, ecology, biodiversity conservation, hydrological modeling, and ecosystem services, and serves as an associate editor for the journal Environmental Science and Policy.
