Andre Ravel is a veterinarian who graduated from Lyon in 1987 and holds an M.Sc. (1991) and a Ph.D. (1995) in quantitative epidemiology from the Université de Montréal. Since 1995, he has specialized in zoonotic issues, beginning his career as a consultant for health and agriculture ministries and the agri-food industry. He later joined the Public Health Agency of Canada, contributing to the establishment of integrated surveillance systems at the animal-human-environment interface, such as CIPARS and FoodNet Canada. Since 2011, he has been a professor at the Université de Montréal, teaching veterinary public health courses at the graduate level while conducting research on various zoonotic and animal health challenges. Ravel is currently leading an action-research project that employs One Health and EcoHealth approaches to minimize dog-related health threats in Northern Canada. His work also encompasses zoonotic disease surveillance, source attribution of enteric diseases in humans, and risk evaluation and management related to infectious diseases in animals and humans.
