Who is the programme for?
Admission to the VIT Online MCA requires a qualifying bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates). Eligible programmes include BCA, B.Sc in Computer Science or IT, B.E./B.Tech in CS or IT, or any three-year bachelor's degree with Mathematics at the 10+2 or graduation level. There is no entrance examination. The application process involves submitting an online form, paying an application fee of Rs 1,200, compiling documents, and undergoing an application review. Selected candidates receive an admission confirmation and must pay a booking amount within 7 days to confirm their seat. Required documents include passport-sized photo, digital signature, proof of age, 10th and 12th marksheets, UG transcripts and degree, ABC ID, UGC DEB-ID, and an experience certificate if applicable. The programme is structured across four semesters combining core subjects and elective specialisations.

Curriculum
The VIT Online MCA curriculum spans four semesters, moving from foundational computer science subjects to advanced elective specialisations. The first two semesters establish core competency through subjects including Discrete Mathematical Structures, Python Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating Systems, Database Systems, Statistics for Data Science, Software Engineering, Computer Networks, and Java Programming. Semesters III and IV introduce elective modules across AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, big data analytics, VAR, mobile app development, blockchain, cyber forensics, and data mining. Students also complete a Seminar and a Project in the final stages of the programme.

Semester I lays the academic foundation with Discrete Mathematical Structures, Python Programming, and Data Structures and Algorithms. Semester II continues with Operating Systems, Database Systems, Statistics for Data Science, Software Engineering, Computer Networks, and Programming in Java — equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of core computing disciplines. Semester III introduces the first set of elective choices from a pool of 11 options: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Software Quality Assurance and Reliability, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Big Data Analytics, Computer Architecture, Mobile Application Development, Cyber Forensics, Blockchain Technologies, and Data Mining Techniques. Students continue their elective selections in Semester IV and also complete a Seminar and a Project Work module, applying their learning in a structured, independent research context.

Course materials are accessible digitally, with no requirement to purchase textbooks or additional software. Faculty members can also be contacted outside of live sessions.
