Legal Scholar and Forensic Linguistics Expert

Maji C. Rhee serves as a Professor at Waseda University's School of International Liberal Studies, where she has been teaching since 2009. Her expertise spans legal communications, forensic linguistics, and Korean studies, bringing a unique interdisciplinary approach to her academic work. After earning her Ed.D. from Rutgers University and both LL.M. and JS.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, she began her academic career at Portland State University before joining Waseda. Her scholarly contributions include significant works on legal linguistics and cross-cultural legal communication, notably the "English-Korean Dictionary of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedures" and research on Korean language usage in American courts. She has also made substantial contributions to international financial law through her work on FATCA implementations in Korea and Japan. At Waseda, she teaches courses in legal communications and leads the WasedaX course on Culture and Law from an East Asian perspective, demonstrating her commitment to bridging legal and cultural understanding between East Asia and the West.
