Michelle Pearce serves as a Professor in the Graduate School at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where she directs three significant graduate certificate programs in Aging and Applied Thanatology, Integrative Health and Wellness, and Science Communication. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. from Yale University, followed by specialized fellowships in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at Duke University Medical Center and Spirituality and Health at the Duke Center for Spirituality, Theology, and Health. As a clinical psychologist, she has developed expertise in integrating religious and spiritual elements into psychotherapy, particularly focusing on the relationship between faith, coping mechanisms, and health outcomes. Her scholarly work includes authoring "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Christians with Depression: A Practical, Tool-Based Primer," which demonstrates her unique approach to faith-integrated mental health care. Her clinical expertise spans multiple areas including cognitive behavioral therapy, spiritual and existential issues, mind-body stress reduction techniques, and behavioral medicine. She has made significant contributions to understanding the intersection of mental and physical illness, developing innovative treatment approaches for moral injury and PTSD among veterans, and advancing the field of spiritually integrated psychotherapy. Kenneth Pargament stands as a leading authority in the psychology of religion and spirituality, serving as Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Bowling Green State University and Adjunct Professor in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine. After earning his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Maryland, he has dedicated over four decades to understanding the intersection of religion, spirituality, and mental health. His scholarly contributions include more than 300 published articles and influential books such as "The Psychology of Religion and Coping" and "Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy." As Editor-in-Chief of the two-volume APA Handbook of Psychology, Religion, and Spirituality (2013), he has significantly shaped the field's theoretical foundations. His pioneering work has earned him numerous prestigious honors, including the Oskar Pfister Award from the American Psychiatric Association (2009), the Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Professional Chaplains (2015), and the inaugural Outstanding Applied Psychology of Religion and Spirituality Award from the American Psychological Association (2017).
