Karl T. Ulrich, Vice Dean of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Pennsylvania
Karl T. Ulrich is the Vice Dean of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship, and product development, and he has co-authored influential texts such as Product Design and Development and Innovation Tournaments. Ulrich has received numerous teaching awards for his contributions to education, including the Anvil Award and the Excellence in Teaching Award at Wharton. He co-founded the Weiss Tech House and the Integrated Product Design Program at Penn, fostering innovation in the university community. With 24 patents to his name, he has led innovation efforts across various industries, including medical devices and consumer products. His courses on Coursera include Entrepreneurship: Developing the Opportunity and Design: Creation of Artifacts in Society, aimed at equipping students with essential skills for success in entrepreneurial ventures. Ulrich holds bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from MIT.

He serves as Co-Director of the Generative AI Labs at Wharton, where he leads efforts to develop prototypes and conduct research aimed at leveraging AI to enhance human capabilities while addressing associated risks.
