Language Specialist and Advocate for Refugee Education at Penn
Brian McManus is a Language Specialist at the University of Pennsylvania’s English Language Programs (ELP), where he has been teaching since 2011. Originally from Ireland, Brian pursued his undergraduate studies in the UK before teaching in Madrid, Spain, for two years and then in the San Francisco Bay Area for seven years. In California, he taught at various adult language programs, including Language Studies International (LSI), Contra Costa Community College, Alameda Adult School, and the International Rescue Committee (IRC), where he coordinated an English Language for Job Seeking Skills program for recently resettled refugees and asylees. He earned a BA in Theatre and Film Studies from London Metropolitan University and an MA in English (TESOL) from San Francisco State University.

Robyn Turner is a seasoned Senior Language Specialist with over two decades of experience in English language instruction across academic, business, and cultural contexts. Since 2004, she has been an integral part of the English Language Programs (ELP) at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on helping learners bridge language and career opportunities. Having taught English in New York, Japan, Bulgaria, and studied in Costa Rica, Robyn brings diverse international experience to her teaching. She holds a B.A. in English, an M.A. in TESOL, and specialized certification from the University of Pennsylvania for teaching business English. Her course "English for Career Development" equips learners with essential language skills to thrive in professional settings.
