Distinguished Health Sciences Information Specialist Leading Systematic Review Education
Mark MacEachern is a prominent health sciences informationist at the University of Michigan's Taubman Health Sciences Library, where he has served since 2007. After earning his BA from McMaster University and Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario, he began his career as a Liaison Services Librarian before advancing to his current role as Informationist in 2013. His expertise focuses on evidence-based practice, advanced search methodologies, and systematic reviews in healthcare research. MacEachern has made significant contributions to medical library education, including co-developing the innovative "Systematic Reviews: Opportunities for Librarians" course and serving as faculty for the Medical Library Association's Research Training Institute since 2018. His excellence has been recognized with several prestigious honors, including the Ida and George Eliot Prize (2018), the Estelle Brodman Award for Academic Medical Librarian of the Year (2019), and the University Librarian Achievement Award (2020). Currently, he leads the development of advanced literature searching courses at Michigan, collaborates with health professionals on review projects, and continues to shape the field of health sciences information through his research and teaching.
