Distinguished Supply Chain Management Expert and Academic Leader
Pierre Semal serves as a Full Professor at the Louvain School of Management, Université catholique de Louvain (UCL), where he has been teaching since 1994. After earning his Master's in Engineering in 1979 and PhD in Computer Sciences in 1992 from UCL, his academic career has focused on Supply Chain Management and performance optimization. His early career included 15 years at Philips research laboratories in Belgium and Germany (1979-1994). As co-founder and co-director of the Centre of Supply Chain Management at UCL, he has significantly influenced the field through his research and teaching. His excellence in research was recognized with the IBM Belgium 1993 prize for the best PhD in Computer Science. His international impact includes teaching appointments across multiple countries including Germany, France, Finland, China, Russia, and the US. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania in 2012. His leadership roles have included serving as Dean of the Louvain School of Management (1999-2005) and Vice-President of CEMS (Global Alliance in Management Education)
