Michelle Yik is a prominent psychologist and Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where she has been teaching since 2002. Her research centers on emotion, personality, and culture/language, with particular focus on the architecture of emotion and cross-cultural understanding of romantic love. As an accomplished academic with a PhD in Social/Personality Psychology from the University of British Columbia, she has authored over 50 journal articles and book chapters, and is currently editing the Oxford Handbook of Emotion and Culture. Her teaching excellence is evidenced by multiple accolades, including the 2007 Humanities and Social Science Teaching Award and the 2010 Michael G. Gale Medal for Distinguished Teaching. Beyond her research, Yik has held various leadership roles at HKUST, including Acting Head of the Division of Social Science (2011-2013), Director of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions (2016-2020), and currently serves as the Champion of Academic Enrichment Program for Faculty.
