Bright Sheng is a renowned composer and performer celebrated for his innovative approach to merging diverse musical traditions, transcending conventional aesthetic boundaries. Born on December 6, 1955, in Shanghai, Sheng began his musical education at a young age and faced significant challenges during China's Cultural Revolution, which shaped his artistic voice. His compositions reflect strong Chinese influences, stemming from over three decades of diligent study of Asian musical cultures, while also incorporating elements from Western music.

Dr. Ilari Kaila serves as Composer-in-Residence and lecturer at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His recent compositions have been showcased in various prestigious venues, including a MATA composer portrait concert in New York with the Aizuri Quartet, the Chelsea Music Festival, and the Metropolis Festival in Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Kaila has collaborated with numerous esteemed artists and ensembles, such as the Escher String Quartet and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
